Calorie Restriction Scientists discuss ketones, the brain, and longevity

Calorie Restriction Scientists discuss ketones, the brain, and longevity

We are delighted to announce that Eric Verdin, Ph.D., of the Gladstone Institute of Virology and Immunology will be the Featured Guest on a special Brain Booster teleconference on Monday, December 17, at 7:30 PM (ET).

Dr. Verdin is a close friend and has attended CR Way presentations. He understands the CR Way lifestyle well. He is an expert in ketones and will discuss his latest paper,  Suppression of Oxidative Stress by β-Hydroxybutyrate, an Endogenous Histone Deacetylase Inhibitor

Understanding the ins and outs of ketone production is important to improving cognitive skills. Ketones facilitate the production of new neurons, which are involved in learning and memory storage. We will ask Dr. Verdin about this so that all who participate in the call will understand better some lifestyle aspects that will help improve their brain and possibly protect them from Alzheimer’s disease.

To make the content easily applicable, a new Brain Booster meal plan – outlining Daily Intermittent Fasting has been added to the Getting Smarter pages of LivingTheCRWay.com. It is different from all other CR Way meal plans, as well as other plans we’ve reviewed:  It focuses on delicious, low-calorie eating and time away from food to improve cognition.

Dr. Verdin’s teleconference is a perfect complement to the teleconference coming up on January 12 at 4:00 PM (ET), featuring Dr. Mark P. Mattson, Ph.D., Senior Investigator, Chief, Laboratory of Neuroscience, and Chief, Cellular and Molecular Neurosciences Section of the NIH. We know Mark and his work well. Research from Mark’s lab influenced us to create the Daily Intermittent Fasting regimen, which, by the way, was the same regimen followed by the late Walter Breuning, who died in April 2011 at 114 as the oldest man in the world.
