Losing Hair? Grow Healthy New Hair

canstockphoto5936726Hair loss isn’t fun. Studies show it can cause psychological damage. And the products used to treat it can be dangerous. Finasteride, for example, first used to treat urinary problems, can cause serious, perhaps permanent side effects.

A new, potentially more effective way to treat hair loss combines minoxidil and ketoconazole.  Ketoconazole has been around for a long time. First introduced in Selsun Blue®, a product to treat dandruff, it has now been found to inhibit dihydrotestosterone, in a similar way to minoxidil, which improves hair growth. It also has the advantage of inhibiting fungal infections too, benefiting the scalp in the short term.

But what about your Microbiome?

Too bad for nizoral® users: It contains sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), which may harm your skin microbiome.  So we are looking SLS-free products.

One of them is Regenepure® DR (Doctor Recommended — !) – Hair & Scalp Treatment. It too has ketoconazole, as well as zinc oxide and salicylic acid as active ingredients. Still, this product will damage the skin microbiome too. If you do use an anti-dandruff shampoo consider combining it with a microbiome-restoring approach.
