Azure Standard – An Economical Resource for Healthful Food

Are you tired of paying high prices for groceries? We are. The trouble is the organic, high- quality products you want to eat cost more. A few days ago, we bought hulled barley at Whole Foods. The cost was approximately $2.00 per pound – almost 100% higher than it was a few years ago.

Try ordering it from Amazon. A 25-pound bag costs a little more: $51.17, that’s $2.04 per pound. Of course, they deliver it to your door and you save money on gas and time. But such prices mount up when everything in your cart is expensive.

After hunting around, we turned to an old friend, Azure Standard. They offered organic products before they were so popular. Appropriately named, Azure Standard is a shade of blue associated with law, justice, and honesty. The family running this farm especially needed those characteristics when in 1971 they stopped using conventional growing methods and began organic farming. As the owner says, “Economic survival was hard at first, but as the soil regained its natural fertility, its yield began to improve.” These days Azure Standard is a valuable resource for organic products.

At first, when we looked up hulled barley on their website, we were excited. The price was only $22.55 for 25 pounds – 90 cents a pound. That’s more than a dollar less per pound that we are paying now. But the catch is the mailing costs. If you ask them to ship by UPS, it costs $36.16 – more than the product itself. And the total is $58.71, more expensive than Whole Foods or Amazon.

We are fortunate that the owner of Azure Standard is innovative and has figured out a way to lower the cost substantially. Azure Standard has outfitted huge semi trucks that even have freezer compartments. You can place an order, and it will be delivered to a specific location. They now ship to 33 states and more locations are in the pipeline. It adds only 8% to the selling price to have your food delivered in this manner. That cuts costs in half for a product like hulled barley.

Interesting item: the delivery drop-off points are managed by volunteers, people like you – who want to eat healthfully and pay a fair price for it.

LivingTheCRWay has no financial connection to Azure Standard. We are committed to making healthful living affordable, and thought it important to pass this info on to you.
