Hunger Hormone Extends Life up to 40%

Exciting new research demonstrates that FGF21 (Fibroblast Growth Factor-21) a hormone produced during fasting extends lifespan by 30% in male mice and almost 40% in females. This is good news for anyone who wants to extend lifespan, whether practicing calorie restriction or not because these mice did not limit calories!

The starvation hormone, fibroblast growth factor-21, extends lifespan in mice

Cynthia Kenyon provides a valuable explanation of the work: Longevity: Could a hormone point the way to life extension?

FGF21 is a hormone that is naturally produced in humans so this finding raises the possibility that increasing FGF21 hormone might extend human lifespan. The downside: it also decreased the bone density and produced female infertility in the mice – not something most people would want to risk.

At LivingTheCRWay.com, we’ve known for a long time that experiencing modest hunger has many health benefits. The hunger hormone Ghrelin improves cardiovascular health and increases mental acuity.  In fact, three CR Way all-stars, who had greatly extended lifespan, all provided the same advice: Leave the table slightly hungry.

Some who have trouble with dieting are so driven by habit, that they feel they have no choice but to eat “everything in sight” as one such person phrased it. Others may be outright afraid of hunger and rush to eat whether they are hungry or not. That’s why LivingTheCRWay membership programs place a lot of emphasis on increasing the relaxation molecule, serotonin. When serotonin is high, dieting is easy and enjoying fasting or simply waiting to eat until hungry is easy. So, why wait for human guinea pigs to test the effects of taking FGF21? Living The CR Way is about gaining those effects right now! Membership in LivingTheCRWay.com includes delicious serotonin-producing recipes in Longer Life software, in the quick start guide: The CR Way to Happy Dieting, and online in our newly revised Delicious Recipe pages.
