Eating on the Wild Side – Free to New Full Members of LivingTheCRWay.com

Eating on the Wild SideCelebrated author, Jo Robinson, was a recent guest on LivingTheCRWay’s Expert Teleconference series.

In a clear, down-to-earth way she explained how we have bred fruits and vegetables that have far fewer phytonutrients than in the original plants, which grew wild. She started by talking about the wild strawberry (remember the small ones you used to find in the woods?) and how when our ancestors were first here in North America, the ground was covered with them.  But eventually the bigger and sweeter varieties took over, which contained far fewer nutrients.

That has happened with many fruits and vegetables. She explained this as she covered many of the foods that are most popular with living the CR Way members. Then she suggested what to do about it. Making smart choices is one of her suggestions and at the end of each of her book chapters, she gives the varieties to look for. Another part of her solution involves using the latest science to store and prepare foods to get the most nutrient value from them. For example, scientific studies show that phytonutrients from  carrots and tomatoes are  made more available by cooking. We especially liked that she did not try to apply a one-size-fits-all
solution for the way to get the most value from foods: Each of her suggestions was based on research.

To help draw attention to her good work and encourage LivingTheCRWay memberships, which support research, LivingTheCRWay offers a copy of her  book to all who become new full members by Monday, February 24th .

The teleconference recording will be available to full members of LivingTheCRWay.com. Log in and access Expert Teleconferences in the left nav menu to listen.
