How did you do?
Now, try 10 numbers, and please be strict. Only use 2 seconds to look at them before looking away.

Now, push it to 11 numbers.

How far can you go?
When Paul first began brain-training exercises, he was a little discouraged. He had a new brain-boosting program that flashed a series of numbers quickly across the computer screen. Not only did it require remembering them in order, but also remembering them in reverse order was another of its challenges. Nine numbers was a far as he could go. So he shrugged his shoulders and said to himself, “I’m over 50: Maybe this is as much as I can expect.”
The good news is that he discovered calorie restriction and soon after beginning a calorie-restricted life style, he also chose to control glucose levels. That seemed to improve his cognition some, but not enough to make a difference in the numbers he could remember in a row.
Then he feels he got lucky: Dr. Mark Mattson came out with his time-away-from-food paper.

At first, Paul was almost afraid to try Dr. Mattson’s ideas on his brain-boosting program: He figured under very low glucose conditions, his scores would be even worse.
He says that he’ll never forget his surprise when he began the CR Way Daily Intermittent Fasting program. After a few days, he sat down to remember number sequences and found he could remember 10- and 11-number sequences. Soon he could recount 12 and 13 numbers and beyond. He actually attributes Dr. Mattson and his extraordinary influence with inspiring the creation of daily intermittent fasting for brain health. Soon lots of CR Way members were turning aging brains into brains that get better with time.
It gave us great pleasure to present Dr. Mattson and his latest work, in the CR Way Brain Booster Teleconference series, on January 12th . A recording of this teleconference is now available for free to all members of livingthecrway.com. Find it in the Getting Smarter forum on livingthecrway.com.
